New Obama Ad, Titled, Mother

It shows a very young Barack Obama on his mother's lap.

This ad is about healthcare, and he speaks about his mother dying at a young age of 53, without healthcare.

It is an effective ad.

Any theories on why your guy hit with a different ad just two days after premiering the ad earlier this week in Iowa?

no theory. i will state this, there are changes going on. but, i like this ad. i liked the other ad that premiered earlier this week. look for more of this and a roll out in NH.

Sounds like a shakeup in the Obama campaign. Bringing in a old friend from his Senate campaign to sharpen the message.

It's a touching ad. Very different from Clinton's health care ad. I'm no TV person but I'll speculate.

The Clinton ad is record, record, record, plan, "change, lead". Obama's is my mom is like you, 20 years of nothing, plan, fix Washington lobbyists.

In Clinton's ad the first half is about her experience: '94, SCHIP, vaccines, and the second half is plan highlights: keep if you like, cheap if you don't, universal. The ad is entirely about health care, I don't know who her targets are in Iowa but this looks like married with children.

Obama's ad seems to cover more topics, it is autobiographical (cares about people like you), an attack on Clinton (20 years of nothing), an attack on partisanship (bickering), Washington and lobbyists, very brief on plan (cut costs and cover everyone). It is very Obama, personal but more meta/process than about an issue. I have no idea who this ad is intended for, but it looks like an attack ad disguised as a bio/health care ad.

Actually I think the Obama campaign has generally been releasing two ads simultaneously in Iowa: usually a longer 1 minute ad (this time it's "Believe"), and then a shorter 30 second spot. They started off with the same set-up with their first campaign ads with one on working across party lines in Illinois and another on ethics reform.

Ads like these have already been focus-group-tested and in the pipeline for a while.

I don't think this is an effective ad. (none / 0)

It tries too hard with the mom stuff, but then is extremely light on policy. Obama has to make his campaign about more than Obama.

I loved this ad. Very direct and compelling.
I also loved the previous ad early this week.

Both ads were awesome and I'm glad he did them.

I'm laughing at all the naysayers trying to poo poo it.

At least Obama doesn't fake his ads .

I'm going to donate some more to the Campaign so we can get even more ads put out.

This ad will play well with Iowan...you feel like you know Obama and trust him while Hillary ad is more like a threat by her campaign telling its viewers that they must vote for her because this is how it should be.
