Video: Hardball and Clinton's Lobbyist Luncheon

Sheila Jackson Lee, Congresswoman, was supposed to be on Hardball but bailed.

If those out there actually "think" that this lobbyist money don't mean anything think again.

Read THIS.

And the video here.

Pimpin' lobbyists, opening chairman doors for you lobbyists, keep writing the peoples legislation for your profit lobbyists, Clinton is all about "pay to play".

This here stink in Iowa.  And if you don't believe it, just watch and see.

Has Edwards paid for the air travel yet? (2.00 / 1)

Edwards accepted cut rate use of a private jet from the former head of the trial lawyers lobbying organization, Fred Baron. Has he reimbursed the cost of that travel at full market rates? Or is he still trying to pretend he's not being "bought" by corrupt influence peddlers?

The biggest expenditure for private jets this year was the more than $430,000 the Edwards campaign paid Mr. Baron, its finance chairman, for the use of his Hawker 800. Mr. Baron, who is known for litigating multimillion dollar asbestos cases, is a past president of the Association of American Trial Lawyers. His political relationship with Mr. Edwards, a fellow trial lawyer, goes back to 2002, when Mr. Baron donated $200,000 to Mr. Edwards's New American Optimist political committee and Mr. Edwards began to fly around in planes provided by Mr. Baron.

Eric Schultz, a spokesman for the Edwards campaign, said Mr. Baron was reimbursed at an amount equivalent to a first-class ticket.

Re: Has Edwards paid for the air travel yet? (none / 0)

Clinton and Obama have both been chartering their own jets since the beginning of the campaign rather that accept freebie corporate jets from trial lawyer lobbyists that aren't subject to the $2300 limit on contributions.

Gee Matthews was certainly pitching some floaters to Bonior there at first.  That looked pretty bad for Hillary and Congresswoman Lee's absence didn't help.  Hmmm...  Where is the debate on public finance in this election?  Anyone have Hillary's position on that beyond what was in the interview?

Anyone who thinks that the Clintons will "magically" change when they come in office - is seriously sick.

The scandals, lying, political retaliation... the list is long. Did I said sex in the office by a President? And his wife fake surprise?

Democrat should mean respectful behavior, competence and love for the country.

stupid (none / 0)

It's been almost 2 months. This stupid 'lobbyists' stuff has gained no traction for either Edwards or Obama. They need to change course, there's no return by clinching to this nonsense.

Re: stupid (none / 0)

People think otherwise in Iowa.

Why is Clinton with all the name-recongnition, still behind in the polls in Iowa. Because you have to meet people face to face and talk to them, one-by-one.

The verdict so far? Iowans decided that Clinton too "cold" and secretive. She can't be clear because of the lobbyists.

Re: stupid (2.00 / 1)

This is nonsense. Clinton is no longer lagging in Iowa. You need to read some polls, suggestion:
http://www.pollster.com/08-IA-Dem-Pres-P rimary.php

You need to worry more about Obama, who's behind Clinton by almost 10 points in the latest LA Times IA poll despite spending over 2 million dollars there in ads alone.

CAN ANYONE DEFEND THIS VIDEO? (2.00 / 1)

How can you?  It is what it is.  What happened happened?  Breakout with top committee sub & chairmen, to smooth thing over that it will be business as usual.

This here, SHIT, need to stop.  Hillary Clinton is a paid for politician.  But just about anyone who will give her a check.  This is pathetic, and if you think Iowans will like this, think again.  That is the problem we have NOW sittin' up there over at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  We don't need this AGAIN.

Re: CAN ANYONE DEFEND THIS VIDEO? (2.00 / 2)

I'd pay to attend that lunch. It would be an informative session with many of the top homeland security leaders in the country. Seems like great fundraiser to me.

Of course, it's probably not as good for the bottom line as getting the use of a trial lawyer lobbyist's corporate jet for the year, taking advantage of a loophole in the election finance laws that allows special interest groups to give in-kind contributions far in excess of the $2300 limit to "for-sale" Presidential candidates.

Re: CAN ANYONE DEFEND THIS VIDEO? (none / 0)

Congress made that illegal, when they passed their ethics package, and Edwards either didn't do that for his presidential campaign, or you are mistyping what happened.

Re: CAN ANYONE DEFEND THIS VIDEO? (2.00 / 2)

Bush just signed the new ethics legislation last week. The new rules for air travel just went into effect. Clinton and Obama jumped the gun and honored the new rules from the start of the campaign. Edwards didn't. He continued to sell his influence to the trial lawyer lobbyists in exchange for the use of their fancy airplanes.

BTW, just to be clear. I don't care if John Edwards and his family fly around in fat cat lobbyist airplanes. Just as long as he's not a flaming hypocrit about it by attacking his fellow Democrats.

Re: CAN ANYONE DEFEND THIS VIDEO? (none / 0)

I don't see the luncheon as conceptually any different than the Harkin Steak Fry.

A politician assembles an attractive cast of political speakers as an inducement for contributors to fork over some money.

A grilled steak in a muddy field is worth $30 to Iowa voters. A piece of rubber chicken in a banquet room and a policy rountable is worth $1000 to mid-level Washington go-getters. These aren't the fat cats. They are already in for $2300 each, if they aren't bundlers.

The level of conspiracy theory in looking at politics drives me batty. This is what politicians do.

Re: CAN ANYONE DEFEND THIS VIDEO? (2.00 / 2)

No sale, my friend.  In exchange for a $1000 contribution industry representatives get to make their pitch to, theoretically, my elected representatives?  It's bad enough they get to do it the rest of the 200 working days of the year, as they undoubtedly do, but to make it the door prize at a fund-raising luncheon makes my skin crawl.

Honestly, my friend, is it not a core progressive platform that one of the fundamental roles of government is to regulate corporations on behalf of the interests of the citizens of this country?  Isn't that one of the fundamental differences between the Democratic and Republican parties?  Am I missing something here?

Hardball and Clinton's Lobbyist Luncheon (none / 0)

There is a huge difference between the Harkin Steak Fry and Hillary's luncheon. None of the attendees from the Steak Fry will have the chance to sit at the table (physically) and talk about legislatures that will benefit them. The war profiteers at Hillary's luncheon will have the seat at the table. They will have a huge impact on Homeland Security and especially ending the war in Iraq.
